How to Create a New Sales Tax from an Invoice, Bill

Sometimes you may encounter a new tax rate while entering an invoice or bill that isn't already set up in your system. Instead of navigating away, most systems allow you to create a new sales tax directly from the transaction screen

Create a New Sales Tax from an Invoice:

  1. On the left-side menu, click Sales > Invoices.
  2. Once you've added an item on the invoice, click Select a tax.
  3. Click 'Create new' tax from the drop-down menu.
  4. Fill in the details about the tax.
  5. Enter the tax name.
  6. Enter the tax rate (only the number, not the % sign).
  7. Enter the account.
  8. Click 'Save'.

Create a Sales Tax from a Bill:

  1. On the left-side menu, click Purchases > Bills.
  2. Once you've added an item to the bill, click the Tax field and select Add new tax from the drop-down menu.
  3. Fill in the details about the tax.
  4. Enter the tax name.
  5. Enter the tax rate (only the number, not the % sign).
  6. Enter the account.
  7. Click 'Save'.
