How to Create Credit Notes for Overpayments

Issuing a credit note for overpayments allows you to properly account for excess amounts received from customers and apply the credit to future invoices or issue a refund.

  1. On the left-side menu, click Sales > Invoices.
  2. Locate the invoice that has the overpayment.
  3. Click the 'Actions' button next to the invoice, then select 'Create Credit Note'.
  4. Enter the date, amount, and a description for the credit note.
  5. After filling in the details, click 'Save'. This will save the credit note as a draft.
  6. To approve the credit note, click the 'Actions' button in the top right corner, then select 'Approve'.
  7. If you want to send the credit note, click the 'Actions' button again in the top right corner, then select either 'Mark as Sent', 'Send', or 'Export as PDF'.
